Conclusion: the fruity and herbal nose has some reminiscence with Irish whiskey. It is really nice, and I am curious what this will turn in to when it is fully matured. Jock has advised the people at the distillery to finish maturation in an older cask, in order to take out a little bit of the young feel of this drink.

More info: From the relatively new (2009) Dutch boutique distillery Stokerij Erve Sculte, this spirit drink is still maturing and with about two and a half years it cannot be called whisky yet, but the result is already something to be really proud of and looks to be very promising.

Double distilled from two types of barley, that are - just as all other ingredients for this spirit drink - sourced locally from an area in the east of the Netherlands called Twente. Even the wood for the casks comes from locally harvested 200 year old oak trees, that has dried in Twente for two and a half years, made into barrels (in Austria) of 55, 100 and 225 litres, and toasted three times, following the specifications of the distillery.

The whisky is most likely to be bottled in August 2014. We have pre-ordered a bottle, and will keep a small quantity of the sample bottle in order to compare what the spirit has become once it is safe to be called whisky.

Thanks to Jock Shaw for supplying us with the sample of this Pride of Twente.
