.balcones - 5th anniversary - brimstone resurrection

60,5% abv, €not for sale, non-chill filtered, natural colour

Nose: wet dogs, wet wax coat, mint, burnt wood, ash, burnt bacon, inner tubes, coal tar, lavender (burnt)
Palate: coal, burnt wood, sweet, honey, burnt meat, ash, leather, burnt marshmallow
Finish: medium long, strong ash, burnt wood
Mark: +++/++

Conclusion: WTF?!... and yet, it is strangely somewhat appealing...

More info: This was accidentally produced, when a batch of corn got burnt to the bottom of the home-made stills. Instead of throwing the result away, Chip Tate decided to smoke the spirit and have it matured in a heavily charred barrel, resulting in the Balcones Brimstone Resurrection in the distillery's fifth anniversary series. In March 2014, at the World Whiskies Awards 2014, it won the Best American Whisky award.

This is an "educational" exclusive, never intended for resale, although if you are quick with your decision, you might get hold of a 3ml sample with Masters of Malt.

The sample of this was supplied by Balcones Whisky, Master of Malt and The Whisky Wire through #BalconesWhisky twitter tasting. The Whisky Exchange (in our sidebar) has some expressions too.
