.lagavulin - distillers edition 1995-2011

43% abv, €75, single malt, caramel E150 added

Nose: sweet, star-anise, cinnamon, fresh, mint, only a hint of peat-smoke, earth, mushrooms, strong alcohol fumes for a 43%
Palate: sweet, liquorice, white pepper, star-anise, sugared ginger, cinnamon, again only a hint of smoke
Finish: more smoke as there was on the nose and palate, sweet, medium dry, slight metallic
Mark: +++/++

Conclusion: a gentle addition to the Lagavulin range, with less smoke as one would expect from this distillery. Water does not do it any good.

More info: Double Matured is Diageo's term of telling us this has been in two cask-types. This has been in an ex-Pedro Ximénez Sherry cask for an unknown period after having matured in ex-Bourbon barrels.
