.nzwc - single cask 1990 - 23yo

The New Zealand Whisky Collection has a series of cask strength bottlings, varying in age, vintage and alcoholic strength. The only common divider they all have is that are distilled in the now closed Willowbank distillery in Dunadin, New Zealand, and they all have matured in ex-Bourbon barrels. We were lucky enough to receive a sample of the 1990 vintage, which has been bottled at a cask strength of a whopping 63.5%...

63.5% abv, €135, single malt

Nose: mellow, sweet, wine-gums, anise, milk chocolate, floral, violets, fruit, red apples, apple-sauce, red berries, raspberries
Palate: sweet, wine-gums, strong (obviously), red fruit, sweet red berries, brambles, raspberries
Finish: long, sweet, slight metallic, cocoa, milk chocolate, star-anise and a hint of liquorice
Mark: +++++

Conclusion: she can have needs a generous splash of water. I could sniff, sip and enjoy this glass forever. With the mentioned splash of water, a full bottle might even last you about twice as long as a standard, watered down bottle. Good stuff.
