.glenfiddich - sample 291006317

At some of his tastings Dutch Glenfiddich Brand Ambassador Tony van Rooyen likes to surprise his guest with something he "found in the back of the car", with a sample he received from the distillery. A while back, we attended on of his "the secret of wood" masterclass, and because I was appointed to be the designated driver, he was kind enough to allow me to fill a sample bottle, with a special six to seven year old  Glenfiddich cask sample.

61,9% abv, €not for sale, single malt, non-chill filtered, natural colour

Nose: sweet, toffee, vanilla, fruit, apples, pear, citrus, limes
Palate: sweet, caramel, toffee, vanilla, fruit, apples, milk chocolate
Finish: warm, sweet, vanilla, firm, long
Mark: ++++/+

Conclusion: It is nice to taste something different from Glenfiddich for a change. The surprise (to me) is that this six or seven year old whisky, does not have the characteristics of a young whisky one would expect to find. I suspect they used a second (or third) fill bourbon cask, to have the spirit mature on itself, without too much influence of the cask. I am really pleasantly surprised by this.

More info: sample ID: 291006317, rotation number: 3233, 03/09/2009, vat 2, whatever these numbers mean, now we know.
