.tomintoul - 21yo

Hidden away on the Glenlivet estate in the picturesque Speyside region of the Scottish Highlands lies one of the younger distilleries in Scotland, Tomintoul distillery - only founded in 1964. This 21yo whisky is the replacement of the discontinued 27yo, to fill the gap between the 16 and the 33yo.

40% abv, €85, single malt, chill filtered, caramel E150 added

Nose: sweet, vanilla, fruit, apples, pears, a hint of oak and cereal, nuts and dark chocolate
Palate: sweet, vanilla, fruit, apples, pears, slightly spicy, white pepper
Finish: sweet, vanilla, warm, rather short, a hint of oak and cereal
Mark: +++++

Conclusion: "The Gentle Dram" is what they advertise about themselves. That sure is something I can agree with. She is quite balanced, and that is also what makes her not something really, really special. Good dram though, €85,- good? I am sure you can get more bang for your buck with another dram...
