.glendronach - 1994 - 20yo - abbey whisky - #3400

Abbey whisky releases several single casks each year, to add to their selection for us to purchase in their store. We were among the lucky ones to receive a sample of this particular series and have a go at this 20 year old GlenDronach, matured in cask #3400, distilled in 1994 and bottled in 2014.

54.8% abv, €130, single malt, non-chill filtered, natural colour

Nose: sweet, very sweet, Pedro Ximénez sherry, herbal, hard green herbs, bay-leaves, cloves, sweet soy-sauce, dried fruits, raisins, plums, new leather
Palate: sweet, hot, soy-sauce, green herbs, bay-leaves, dried fruits, raisins, fresh coffee beans
Finish: hot, sweet, shorter as expected, new leather, a slight metallic coffee bitter
Mark: +++/++

Conclusion: less creamy as expected, the nose is brilliant, the taste is good, the finish is "meh" to me, mainly because the coffee bitter is not really fitting with the rest and a bit of a let down.

Many thanks to Abbey Whisky for the sample.
