.the balvenie - 14yo - caribbean cask

This whisky keeps coming back to us, but still has not found her way into our cabinet. After making the note today, I find that it is about time we go to the sore and change that.

43% abv, €45, single malt

Nose: sweet, liquid fudge, fruity, caramel apples, pears, dark fruit, prunes
Palate: sweet, gentle, fruity, warm apples, creamy texture, toffee, white chocolate
Finish: sweet, fruity, caramel apples, gentle, smooth, long
Mark: ++++/+

Conclusion: Wonderful dram. As said, she keeps crossing our paths. We have encountered her in different foodpairings, tastings and our travels. The reason is simple, she is a stunning dram, for a semi-reasonable price.

More info from the website: "Caribbean Cask has been matured in traditional oak whisky casks for 14 years, and then ‘finished’ in casks that previously held Caribbean rum. To create the ideal finish Malt Master David Stewart, filled American oak casks with his own blend of select West Indian rums. When he judged the casks to be ready, the rum was replaced with the 14 year old spirit and the wood was put to work adding the final touches. The result is an exceptional single malt whisky with the traditional smooth, honeyed character of The Balvenie, married with notes of toffee and a hint of fruit, with a warm, lingering finish."
