.ardmore - triple wood

For some reason, many distillers choose to create a "triple wood" expression and release this for the travel retail market. More often than not, these expressions are a great success, and, lo and behold the Ardmore has recently done so as well. Matured in American oak barrels, quarter casks & puncheons and married together, this expression can only be bought by thirsty travellers.

46% abv, €62, single malt

Nose: sweet, vanilla, fruit, pears, warm cherries, red berries, raspberries, milk-chocolate, citrus, fresh grapefruit juice, a hint of hay
Palate: sweet, toffee, butterscotch, butter, creamy caramel, milk-chocolate, cherries, lapsong souchong tea
Finish: medium long, sweet, toffee, and - surprise surprise - milk-chocolate, citrus, grapefruit
Mark: ++++/+

Conclusion: very likeable. I just might be on the lookout next time we are travelling. I might start looking for it in the chocolate section.

Many thanks to Ardmore for sending us the sample as part of the #TheArdmoreWhisky twitter tasting
